For some collecting and restoring is just a hobby, but for others it’s a lifestyle.

Why Did Henry Ford Call His Tractors Fordson?

There’s a few reasons, lets break down three of them.

ONE

The other owners of the Ford Motor Company wanted nothing to do with a farm tractor, so they didn’t want the name associated with it.

TWO

The Ford Tractor Company of Minneapolis Minnesota already took the name.

This was an attempt to trick customers into thinking they were buying a tractor from Henry Ford.

The truth was quite devious.

The designers found a man named Ford who signed off on the tractor and allowed them to call the tractor Ford.

The tractor was poorly designed, completely unreliable and didn’t live up to its advertised performance claims. It led to the creation of new tractor rating standards now referred to as the Nebraska Tests.

THREE

The final reason is that Henry Ford started the new tractor company with his son and because of this used the name Fordson.
